Airprint Driver For Canon Mx860

I have a Canon MX 860 that is not compatible with El Capitan. It worked fine with Yosemite. The Canon website has no El Capitan driver for my printer.

Even though my printer is supposedly wireless capable, it is a major pain in the butt to set up. I've tried in the past. I don't want to set up my printer wirelessly or on a network.

Do I have any recourse short of buying a new printer?Hello, I just went to the Canon website (I also have a Canon Pixma - different model) and found your printer - checked the drivers and an El Capitan version is available (see attached screen capture) - make sure to check the other drivers, e.g. Scanning, for upgrades. Good luck and let us know your results. When I selected El Capitan & then selected 'Drivers', the following came up: There is no driver for the OS Version you selected. The driver may be included in your OS or you may not need a driver. I went to System Preferences & tried to add the printer, but no driver was listed.

What I don't understand is that OS X recognized the MX 860, but no driver was listed. I don't relish the idea of buying a new printer. I got the printer in 2009.

I wonder if an El Capitan update will provide a driver for my printer. It might not since my printer is 6 years old. So, am I out of luck & have to buy a new printer?

Dcs.79c, I'd give Canon a call, either via their live chat or phone via their web contact us methods. When I got my Canon AIO several months ago, I set it up wirelessly and only from using the directions I found on the web,and the printer screen, I never downloaded any driver like the old fashioned way, and never did the setup via USB cable etc. As Apple etc.seem to suggest, and never seems to work properly!!!

I haven't checked if gutenprint has a compatible driver for your Canon, but might be some solution for you if there is. EDIT: Canon-MX860-seriesEXPERIMENTAL Better than nothing and maybe some basic printing. I'm not saying that it's impossible to get this printer working (RadDave's Post). But what I have said MANY times (check my posts). Detailed research is important to do when doing OS upgrades. Many times older hardware can be 'orphaned' when doing an OS upgrade. Sometimes a 'free' OS upgrade is not so free!!!Well, I cannot 'vouch for' the validity of Canon's offering of El Capitan for the printer in question - I simply found the listing, sorry.

As to Nick's post above, my own experience is that printer technology can change rapidly, especially w/ better options for network integration. When I buy new computers, I invariably buy new printers (they are just cheap these days) - got our iMac in 2013, and could not get my old Canon Pixma to work over Wi-Fi, so bought a Pixma 922 and had no problems (have not upgraded to El Capitan yet, but guess that I will see if there is compatibility?); also, had an old Brother laser which was a PITA trying to integrate w/ my iMac & network, bought the newer Brother and had no problem. My point to the OP, is that your printer is 6+ years old - my suggestion would be to buy a new one, but of course, your call.

Unfortunately, the screen shot shows that the mx860 is not compatible with El Capitan. So, I'll have to buy a new printer.

I want to get a new printer anyway since mine is about 6 years old. It still works.Well, you deserve a new printer after 6+ years, and BTW, they all seem to still work (at least the ones I've replaced over decades now) but not w/ the newest HW/SW upgrades - Seems like my Pixma 922 is compatible - now @ 3 years of age - I'll see when I decide to upgrade to El Capitan - both are now working well on Yosemite w/ my laptop able to print via AirPrint from the other room - will cross my fingers.
